|Scope & Content||
Manuscript plat of Golden City mounted on cardboard with newspapers covering the back. Water damage in various sections of the map along with the top left corner missing. Nail holes are around entire perimeter. May have been nailed to wall; most likely this was a working document. Handwriting in the lower left corner: J B Fitzpatrick presented this to documents 1874. Evidence of pencil writing on lower right hand corner but unreadable. (John B. Fitzpatrick was a Mayor of Golden from 1873-1874). Four sections of the map legend are located in the left corner of the map that break down ownership of individual lots; only two are readable: Lots sold Clark Comp and Cheny and Snow. (E. E. Cheney and William M. Snow publicly dissolved their partnership in the Western Mountaineer on June 22, 1860). Title of the map: Map of Golden City laid out in the Spring of 1859. Under title different handwriting says: Drawn by R. W. Clarke.
An article in the Jefferson County Republican on Thursday, January 25, 1940, titled, Pictures and Maps Recently Added To Museum Collection, seems to reference this same map as donated to the museum by county clerk W. T. Marsh. Copy of article in media link.
North and south streets are named after the wives of early pioneers. Jeanette Street is named for Jeanette Ferrel, Mary Street is named for Mary Boyd, and Helen Street is named for Helen Berthoud.
