Legend of Hackberry tree: "Hackberry Tree. 1859 pioneer's saw tree as well others willows-cottonwood and evergr. Indian's loor(?)-gr. chief slain in battle. Buried on this bluff and near Arv. He was dressed in his robes-ornaments and weapons around neck-buckskin bag with medicine bag-in this bag hackberry seeds placed-One seed rooted. Another tale white Thunder gr. medicine man of Sioux planted lone hackberry trees in hills Dak. Neb. Wyo. and Colo. Said trees alters great spirit and none to destroy."
