Title Sheriff Harold E. Bray in uniform
Description Color photograph of Jefferson County Sheriff Harold E. Bray taken in his office at headquarters, 1600 Arapahoe Street in Golden. This is the uniform modified by Sheriff Arthur Wermuth in 1960 from the original uniform created by Sheriff Carl Enlow in 1954. Fashioned after the WW II uniform of the Marine Corps, Bray is wearing a white hat that indicates the universal color for command, a brown tie tucked in above the second button, brown gun belt and brown boot, forest green blouse that commemorates America's first police officers, the Irish, and "Pink Tan" trousers that are made of uncolored wool, the similar style and composition of pant worn by Confederates in the Civil War. The photograph is unique since Bray "never" wore a uniform.
