Description Black and white photograph of a group of 16 women wearing white dresses and wimples with red crosses on them; several are sitting behind sewing machines and others are hand-sewing items. On back is handwritten, " Seated from left / Gayton - Staples - Bolitho - Gow - Schaul Service Larison / Standing 3 on left / Woodridge - Gilbert - Woods / on right standing / Reed - Benson - Goetze." At bottom corner is written "Red Cross Sew Club." A note accompanying photo reads "The women of Golden's Red Cross sewing club, c. 1915. During World War a wave of patriotism surged thorughout town and many rsidents became active in the war effort. Many women became active in the Red Cross organization. One of their tireless efforts included hand-knitting wool socks for soldiers."
