Title Sheriff Harold E. Bray Swearing In Ceremony
Date 1962
Description Black and white negative showing a Jefferson County Judge giving the oath of office as Sheriff to Harold E. Bray. Bray is standing with his hand raised and the Judge is standing in his robes behind the bench. At the front of the photograph and to the left of the Judge is the chair used for witnesses. The room where this photograph was taken was a temporary courtroom in the basement of the 1958 Jail. The Courtrooms in the 1954 Courthouse located across the parking lot from the 1958 Jail was overcrowded and the County put this temporary courtroom in the 1958 Jail until other space could be located. In 1964, the County built a Hall of Justice that housed all courtrooms, including this temporary courtroon depicted in the photograph, and the room was converted to a work area for the Colorado State Patrol. In 1969, with the construction of Camp George West in east Golden, the State Patrol acquired new office space and the room depticted in this photogrpah was converted back to a Sheriff's Department Assembly and Meeting Room that was used until 1984. The photograph shows two doors: the right door lead into the Judge's chambers, and later to the CSP and Sheriff's Department Patrol Captain's office. The left door opens to a long hallway that connected the courtroom with the indoor pistol range, Sheriff's patrol and civil offices. The identity of the other persons in this negative are unknown.
