One of two Historically Jeffco magazines, Issue 40, 2019, focusing on "Historical Tourism in Jefferson County." Subjects include a discussion of early tourism in Jefferson County by rail and automobile; the organization of the Golden Chautaugua in 1919 and it's development over it's four-year existence (1919-1922); a narrative history of Golden's Holland House, founded in 1946 and closed in 1982; a history of the Mother Cabrini Shrine; information and history of the town of Apex, a Gold Rush town just south of Golden; an account of an incident of ball lightening seen over Golden in 1894; a profile of Ella Deaver Wise, who, in 1894, was the first woman in Jefferson County elected to public office; an account of the collapse of the Golden Post Office in 1969; and an account of the wartime death of Golden resident David Henry Helps, Jr. who was shot down two days after the D-Day invasion at Normandy in 1944. |
