The book was prepared by then Lieutenant Dennis L. Potter to commemorate the opening of the Jail and Sheriff's Complex in 1986. There were 250 copies of the book made, some were given to dignataries, others sold, others given to Jefferson County Public Libraries, and one enclosed within the cornerstone of the Sheriff's Complex. The book is a general narrative history of the Sheriff's Department, with photos and copies of newspaper clippings. Harold E. Bray was the Sheriff at the time of the book's publication, Denzil Boeka the Undersheriff. The second half of the book is a photographic collection of all personnel working at the Sheriff's Department in 1986, with their dates off employment and separated in duty assignments. 96 page 8 1/2 x 11" book titled Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, 1859-2002. The cover is green, the color of the Department's uniform, with a depiction of the first badge issued to Deputies in 1949. |
