Scrapbook assembled by Golden resident and local historian Irene Goetze. A handwritten note written on the inside cover of the scrapbook said that the book was started in November 1967. The book includes a typewritten index of subjects and their associated page locations. Highlights from the scrapbook include: *A newspaper clipping and caption dated November 26, 1967 regarding the demolition of the Rolling Hills School built in 1903 *2 black & white photos and a newspaper photo of the old freight depot on lower 9th Street, which was built in 1872 and torn down in 1968 (p. 5) and a newspaper photo & caption of the new frieght depot (p. 9) *An article profiling E. Maude Broad, widow of Robert B. Broad, who turned 100 in 1968 *An article profiling Pete Morrison *Clippings discussing the Dedication and 50th Anniversary of the Golden Liberty Bell, and a handwritten copy of Irene Goetze's "little speech" that she gave when she and Emily Pike opened the 1918 Time Capsule *A copy of the document titled "Brief Outline of Red Cross Work in Golden, Colo. 1917 to 1919" *Black & white photographs of houses on 15th Street that were demolished in 1968 to make way for a new CSM building *Black & white photographs of the Nare Ranch at Golden Gate Canyon; Fairmount School next to a clipping advertising the Fairmount School property for sale *An 8x10 black & white photograph of a wall on a store at 12th St. and Washington Ave., painted with the names of servicemen from Golden who served in the Philippines during WW2, 1942-1945 |
