Vivian Estate: John C. Vivian's scrapbook mostly containing newspaper clippings of articles about Colorado School of Mines football. Also included are a few clippings of local Golden articles, poems, and tributes to President McKinley. The scrapbook is covered in shiny brown paper with an elaborate gilt design depicting birds, floral elements and inset illustrations of a small child and a ship at sea, with "Album" in the center. One clipping with a date stamp of June 2, 1904, reports that the "Inter-Mountain Road Reduces Fare to 15 Cents" to ride between Denver and Golden. The article goes on to discuss fares of other lines that run to Golden. Another small clipping is titled "Golden Paper Mills Burn" recording that on Nov. 2 destroyed the Golden paper mills, "the oldest mill in the state," and recorded that the property belonged to R.C. Wells, and "was the first mill erected in Golden." |
