Fonds: Various essays, research, correspondence, and narratives written by Golden historian Richard Gardner, relating to the history of Golden. Many of these narratives and essays were written for an online local history group through Yahoo, called OldGolden. Information includes: * An essay dated February 29, 2012 regarding the history of the Loveland Cottage located on 12th Street, which was built c. 1860, during the gold rush, by Rueben Borton, who lived there with his wife Leah Borton (a founding member of the Ladies Samaritan Society) and son William. * A rememberance and biographical essay dated April 22, 2012 about Vi Hader, who had passed away in March 2012. * An essay dated June 16, 2012, in celebration of the 153rd anniversary of the founding of Golden. Gardner reprints and discusses an 1859 description of the area that was to become Golden, written by newspaperman E. H. N. Patterson. * A short essay discussing the early Colorado history of the family of Representative Ed Perlmutter and Adolph and William Coors. * An account of the opening of the West Rail Line, written on April 26, 2013. Gardner notes that this line was originally known as the Denver, Lakewood & Golden, and also as the Denver Intermountain and discusses the history of the rail line. * An essay titled "With Golden's Own on The First Veteran's Day," dated Nov. 11, 2013, and recounting the story of how the residents of Golden first heard that the Great War had ended, including the story of Golden's Liberty Bell. * An email correspondence to museum staff dated January 2, 2014, regarding details of certain new acquisitions of the museum, including a 1951 Philco TV, menus from the LaRay Hotel, and a sign associated with the Fair 5 & 10 Store. |
