Theodore Perry Boyd, I, came to Golden in June of 1859 and constructed the third house built in town. Prior to coming to Colorado, he trained as an engineer, worked on the Erie Canal in the 1830s, and spent 4 years engaged in mining in California after the 1848 Gold Rush. A year after moving to Golden he relocated to a farm 7 miles east of Golden along Clear Creek. Boyd was elected in 1861 to the first Board of County Commissioners for a term of three years. In 1865 he returned to his native Pennsylvania where he died the following year. |
