Bar and cafe once located at 1305 Washington Avenue in Golden, Colorado, next to the Gem Theater. It operated in the late 1940s through about 1960 when it changed names to become the "M" Lounge. A short article in The Golden Outlook newspaper dated June 22, 1947, noted that the Lookout Tavern and Cafe was soon to open. The article reads, "LOOKOUT TAVERN & CAFE TO REPLACE 'TROPICS' - Bill Slaughter, former of Craig, who recently purchased the Tropics Inn from Bob Dean, announces that the name of the firm is being changed to the Lookout Tavern and Cafe. It is planned that June 29 the business will close for 4-days, to reopen July 3rd with new fixtures, equipment and lunch counter. Mrs. Florence McDowell will be in charge of the cafe." |
