Provenance |
This photo was one of several items placed in the 1968 Time Capsule at City Hall in Golden, Colorado, to be opened 50 years later, in 2018. In Archives 2019.063.1432 Irene Goetze's scrapbook, page 16, a handwritten transcript of her remarks on this day: "Dignateries [sic] & Officers- Ladies & Gentlemen- I want to say I am very proud to have been invited to take part in this program today- How well I remember the night of Nov. 11-1918. We lived next to the fire station in the big stone house on 12th. A.J. Treffersen came out & rang the bell. We ran out thinking it was a fire. He called out "The war is over" It rang so long--in no time the street was filled with people waiting for their turn to ring the bell. I was one who helped ring the bell that night. Everyone was so joyous & happy-- Placed in this box at [the same?] time the bell was placed at Old City Hall were a number of personal cards. As far as I can determine-- I am sole survivor of that list." In margin she wrote "50 ys to be told" |
