Color photo of local jazz band Futile Five playing in the gymnasium at Golden High School, c. 1960. The "Futile Five" was a local traditional jazz band composed of five young men from Golden High School. Members included, Arthur Katona on trombone, Bill Clark on bass horn, Tom Dunham on piano, Philip Mason on trumpet, and Richard Jurney on drums. Occasionally, Bob Burdick played with the group and they called themselves The Futile Five Plus One. The group formed in 1956 and played local gigs with a good-size following until 1960. |
