Description |
Black and white photograph of the business district in Golden, CO, taken from the corner of 12th Street looking northeast up Washington Avenue. Cheney's Chicago Saloon and Billiard Hall is visible on the left on the corner of 11th Street. Next to Cheney's is the B.E. Gamble & Co. Building which previously was the original W.A.H. Loveland Building. The Colorado Drug Store is located in the small frame building to the left of Fisher & Cass Wholesale Grocers Building which would later become the Overland Hotel. A horse drawn wagon with logs is in the back in the foreground of the photograph. Several horses and men are standing in the middle of the street. Photograph taken by visiting photographer, Mr. Sornberger from Georgetown, CO, in April of 1867. |
Provenance |
Photograph taken by visiting photographer, Mr. Sornberger from Georgetown, CO, in April of 1867. One of the earliest images of Golden in the collection. It's possible that the logs in the photograph were used to build the second Loveland building out of view on the corner of 12th Street and Washington Avenue. |
