Description |
Black and white photograph with a wide view of the Coors Porcelain Plant building, with one tall smokestack with seven shorter smokestacks on the plant roof. South Table Mountain and Castle Rock are seen in the background. Visible at the top of Castle Rock are the buildings of Castle Rock Resort. The funicular railway is seen running up the mountain to Castle Rock. On the right edge of the image is written "Adolph Coors, Golden, Colo. Exterior of plant. 1/19/25." In the lower left corner of the image is "Rocky Mountain Photo Co. 16081 Denver, Colo." On back of image is handwritten in ink, "About 1927 (Dance Hall burned in June 1927.)" Below this is written "Frost House / Matthews Garage." To right of image, behind the Coors Porcelain Company property, is a white house, which is identified as the home of Ray Frost, 700 Ninth Street. Also identified in the background partially obscured by trees is a small white garage build by Dick Matthews. Accompanying the photograph is a typed page with a paragraph identifying the elements of this photos, composed by Ray Frost. He wrote: "This is an excellent photo of the Coors Porcelain Company, taken about 1925 - it shows CPCo's 7 Cone Kilns and 1 Special Cone Kiln. The office was the brick corner at the left of the building, and it shows the Brewery Smokestack, with smoke, viewed between the kilns. It also shows the back of the Frost house (purchased in 1923 from E. E. Benjamin of Arvada) at 700 Ninth Street. The small white garage partially showing to the back of the Frost House was just built by Dick Matthews and they were living in it until he built his residence on Ninth St. It also shows the dance hall on top of Castle Rock and the 2 cable cars which had just passed the halfway meeting on the track. Across Jackson Street was the Roswell Graves house and across the corner was Clarence Nicholls. The Colorado & Southern Railway had the 2 tracks on the north side of the CPCo Building. The Welch Ditch shows by the tree line on South Table Mtn. Ray." |
