Provenance |
The design for these hard candy boxes was developed in the early 1960s by commercial artist Robert A. Cormack. A Sugar 'n Spice newsletter article (a publication of the Jolly Rancher company) touch on the development of this design in an article titled "New Boxes Emphasize Product," Sugar 'n Spice Vol. 1 No. 6, page 5. The article said that "the boxes were originally designed by Bob Cormack, who at an earlier time in his career as an artist, worked at the Walt Disney Studios in Hollywood. His work has contributed greatly to the success of the hard candy sales. "With modern research into packaging and emphasis on new methods of merchandising, the need became greater for better product identification on the boxes. Bob Cormack was again presented with the problem, and with his usual flair for the colorful, comic, and novel, came up with boxes just right for this new modern trend in packaging." |
