Description |
Unused postcard printed by the Sanborn Souvenir Co. with a black and white image of the stone pylons marking the entrance to Lookout Mountain Park and the Denver Mountain Park system. On bottom right of image is "Lookout Gateway to Denver Mt. Parks." At right corner is "Sanborn P-911." The stone pylons were presented to the City of Denver by Finlay L. MacFarland in 1917. On back of postcard is handwritten, " #2 Stone gateway above Golden, beginning steep climb into the Rockies." |
Provenance |
In reference to a photo of the stone pillars found in Historically Jeffco Magazine 2001 (see: https://www.jeffco.us/DocumentCenter/View/9468/Historically-Jeffco-2001-PDF?bidId=), they wrote: "Gateway to Lookout Mountain Park, Colo. After passing over the eight mile concrete road between Denver and the little town of Golden, one comes upon two huge stone pylons built of rough hewn gray granite. This imposing gateway is the entrance to Lookout Mountain Park, and marks the foot of the famous Lariat Trail. This gateway, and a similar one at the Bear Creek entrance to the Denver Mountain Parks were presented to the City of Denver by Finlay L. MacFarland, one of Denver's prominent automobile dealers and a member of the Denver Mountain Park's advisory Commission." |
