Description |
Ceremonial medal for the Golden City Lodge No. 1 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Colorado. This medal was owned by Dr. L. C. (Leslie Carleton) Anderson, a dentist who practiced in Golden from 1913 through his death in 1962. The medal represents the Order of the Knights Templar. It contains a silver top bar enameled in black, reading "Colorado No. 1." The top bar is attached to a half-black, half-white silk ribbon, which itself is attached to a white enameled silver Maltese Cross. In the center is a shield shaped device incorporating "K" on white enamel and "T" on black enamel, a silver crown with a red cross at the boundary of the black and white enamel, and the words "In Hoc Signo Vinces," a classical Latin phrase translated as "In this sign thou shalt conquer." On the back of the Maltese Cross is engraved in cursive, "Leslie Carleton Anderson." |

Dr. Anderson and his family moved to Golden in 1913, where he opened his dental office in the Rubey Bank Building on Washington Ave. Dr. Anderson was elected Worshipful Master of Golden Lodge No. 1 in 1919. |
