Description |
Theodolite: surveyor's transit. At top is a brass telescope and eyepiece component that is adjusted with a brass knob on the right side. The wheel on the left side is an elevation circle indicating the degree of elevation of the telescope. There is a spirit level directly below the telescope & eyepiece, as well as spirit levels below to allow for leveling in two directions. Below the eyepiece component is a vernier plate holding a compass. Scratched into the paint near the compass is "BBR" or "BBA." Four leveling screws are attached to the brass footplate, to which another spirit level is attached. The base is threaded to attach to a tripod. On the compass face is inscribed manufacturer's information: "C. L. Berger & Sons / Successors to / Buff & Berger / Boston / 2952" and "Pat'd March 2 1897." On the base of the vernier plate is a faded label reading "C.S.M. / 16545." One leg of tripod marked T-25 in white paint. |
