Beamer died at his home at 410 19th St. in Golden and is interred at Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He came to Golden at age 19. He was described as a "colorful character" and skilled ventriloquist. He was known for driving a vegetable wagon around Golden pulled by a white horse, filled with produced purchased every morning from a market in Denver. His obituary records that he was at one time offered a position as a clown in a circus, but declined. A Dec. 25, 1930 Colorado Transcript article describes Fred Beamer as being Golden's Santa Claus for over 30 years. He was Santa for the Community Christmas Tree, the Kiwanis, and at the Industrical School, as well as driving his vegetable wagon around town during Christmas week in Santa costume. He is also described as being a ventriloquist. |
