West was appointed by Governor Alva Adams to serve two years as Adjutant General of the Colorado National Guard. From that point on he was addresses as General West. During West's tenure a Ute rebellion on the Western Slope was repressed, armories were established in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Leadville, and a signal corp was created. West's grandson State Adjutant General Neil W. Kimball renamed the State Rifle Range Camp George West May 1, 1934. |
